Hey fam! 😊
Greetings from Rome! 🇮🇹 I've finally settled back into my routine after a fantastic time with my family during the Easter break.
As I sip on my cappuccino in a cozy Roman café, I can't help but be amazed by how technology continues to transform our lives. The digital landscape is ever-evolving, and I'm excited to share with you a riveting book that's got me thinking about the future: "世界2.0 メタバースの歩き方と創り方" (World 2.0: Exploring and Creating the Metaverse). This insightful read sheds light on the metaverse and its potential impact on our lives. So, let's dive right in! 🌐
🌟 Book Highlights
At first, I had no idea what the term "metaverse" meant. But with Facebook changing its name to Meta, the term has become quite popular and widely used.
🕹️However, according to the author, people's attitudes toward the term can be divided into three categories:
Seniors tend to reject it.
Young people embrace it if it can bring them benefits.
Middle-aged individuals who are aware of it but think it's "a waste of time"
Based on experience, the only attitude that leads to gain is the second one. The author believes that we need to eliminate fixed concepts and start learning about the metaverse, as big companies like GAFA are investing in it.
🚀 Sato, the author, is a successful entrepreneur who founded multiple companies, including data analysis, online payment business, and a space technology company. In his book, he highlights three essential characteristics of all technologies, which are:
They extend human abilities
They will eventually educate humans
They begin in our hands and expand to the universe
From steam and electricity, which expanded our physical abilities, to computers, which are expanding our cognitive abilities, technology continues to expand our capabilities.
🔐 Technology can expand our capabilities beyond our physical limitations, change our lifestyles to accommodate them, and even help us venture into space. It also democratizes abilities that were once held only by a privileged few, such as information, finances, knowledge, and money; Metaverse is the next step in this evolution, allowing us to exceed our individual abilities and expand into the virtual world.
I don’t know how I feel about the Metaverse yet, but I’ll update you once I finish reading the book!

I think that metaverses will become part of our lives in the near future, maybe within the next 5-10 years. Although many of them are currently available for testing, it seems that the current technology stack is unable to fully unleash the potential of such technology.
However, I believe that Apple will be the game-changer, as they often are. I know they are currently developing mixed-reality glasses.
Just imagine what could be achieved if we combined the current realization of metaverses built on blockchains with the expertise of AAA game development companies and glasses created by Apple or another tech giant. Decentralized storage through blockchains means that data can be stored on all devices simultaneously, and it also allows achievements to be transformed into NFTs, so you can play and earn, etc. The visual aspect of these projects can be greatly enhanced through collaboration with AAA game development companies, as the current versions resemble outdated Tamagotchi or Tetris technologies. Finally, the mediator between the real and metaverse worlds could be Apple glasses. This will be “Free Guy” in real life. And it is only one example that can be realized. We live in interesting times.
I agree with the author of the book on two points and I want to expand a little the third:
- firstly, seniors tend to reject such technologies due to a lack of familiarity;
- secondly, young people will be the primary beneficiaries of such technologies.
- finally, the middle-aged portion of society may consider it a "waste of time", but a small group of this category will likely realize these ideas for younger generations.
